Is This Thing On? ????
There’s a whole subset of games out there (video games have always been a foundational square on my Casey Quilt) that center around this premise: start small, beat a little level, have a couple new things open up. You’re dropped into whatever world the game designers have fastidiously laid out for you, and as you play by the rules and defeat the obstacles in front of you, more worlds open up. More choices, more DLC, and more little endorphins fireworking in your brain. At first it feels as though staying on this path will lead you to eventually beating the game… but there’s oh so much more to uncover than you realized.
I’ve taken a journey into exploring social media and how it may relate to my career, so even starting this sentence might get my readers completely ahead of this analogy. It’s one thing to post a few things online here and there, but to intentionally create, devise, write, perform, and schedule all these things in order to build an audience, grow your brand, and… dare I say monetize? It’s an entirely new ball game. A whole other expanding web which somehow keeps expanding outward the farther I climb in it.
Well, now I’ve jumped haphazardly from video games to spiders, so maybe it’s time to focus on the literal.
I recently finished reading Influencer by Brittany Hennessy, and it opened my eyes to exactly how far this arcane and fast paced life can travel. And while the term “Influencer” may come off as cringe (hiya, Gen Z vocab!) I’ve been finding that it’s a pretty exciting world in which a lot of people can succeed. There’s always more to look at, more to see, more directions to swivel your head. It’s brought up a lot of ideas that I can offer, and I’ll try to document them here to see how far I’ve come.
The idea of a full time blogger isn’t dead, people! All it takes is time and a team of dedicated people to… what’s that? I don’t have either of those?
Well, follow along on what’s sure to be a thrilling adventure!
